Top Gun Flight School

At iParaglide Top Gun Flight School, we take pride in having taught over 1900 paragliding students in our 26 years of operation.

We are the the longest running school based in Metro Vancouver. Due to our central location, we are the only school that flies all of the relevant kiting parks, training hills and mountains within a 3 hour radius of Vancouver.  This empowers pilots to get to know the key training and flying spots early, optimizes and accelerates learning, and allows them to grow into great future pilots.  

We have the reputation of being an industry leader with an emphasis on engineered safety systems, quality instruction, the finest equipment and a positive learning environment for fun and empowering flying.

We offer the highest level of accreditation, with Senior HPAC and Advanced USHPA paragliding instructors, who coach from first flight to expert paraglider pilots and teach and qualify new paragliding instructors.

Paragliding Weather Forecast for the Vancouver, Whistler, Pemberton, Chilliwack, Bellingham & Seattle area, based on data available at 0800.

High pressure with jetstream to northwest amplifying outflow. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft NE to 31 km/hr easing as day prgresses. Valley winds NW at water and gusty East winds in chillwiack 20-40 km/hr, easing late afternoon.  Novice peak lapse rate -1.9C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft NE to 17 km/hr.  Valley winds NNW to 15 km/hr. Novice peak lapse rate -2.0C/1000ft.

Paragliding not recommended today in Vancouver, Whistler, Pemberton, Chilliwack, Bellingham & Seattle area due to outflow winds in valley and NE winds aloft placing most sites in lee-side.  Outflow winds also bringing inland smoke and reducing thermalling possibilities.

Transitioning pressure with mostly cloudy skies and north-east outflow wind aloft bringing smoke back again from inland fires.  

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft NE to 20 km/hr continuing to bring smoke. Valley winds NW at water and E in valley to 15 km/hr easing late afternoon. Advanced peak lapse rate -2.8C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft NNE to 22 km/hr.  Valley winds NNW to 15 km/hr. Novice peak lapse rate -2.2C/1000ft.

Transitioning pressure with mostly cloudy skies and 30% POP with east wind aloft bringing smoke from inland fires.  Less cloud, smoke and and no POP in Bellingham Seattle. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft SE to 22 km/hr all day continuing to bring smoke. Valley winds E to 10 km/hr becoming W late in the day. Novice peak lapse rate -1.2C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft SW to 26 km/hr easing to 20 km/hr. Valley winds SSW to 10 km/hr. Novice peak lapse rate -2.3C/1000ft.

1. Paragliding Bellingham: -2.4C/1000ft intermediate peak lapse rate. Smoke likely to decrease actual lapse rate. Sea breeze should clear smoke earlier than elsewhere.  Blanchard for P2 pilots 1100-1900. Chances to paraglide 80%. 

2. Paragliding Seattle: -2.3C/1000ft Novice peak lapse rate.  Wait for early SW wind aloft to subside.  Tiger for P2 pilots 1300-1900. Paragliding chances 70%.

Paragliding not recommended in Vancoucer, Chilliwack and Pemberton due to 30% POP, clouds and thick smoke blocking thermalling possibilities and decreasing visibility.

Paragliding Weather Forecast for the Vancouver, Whistler, Pemberton, Chilliwack, Bellingham & Seattle area, based on data available at 0700.

Sunny skies with some smoke haze from inland fires brought by strong East wind aloft compounding outflow and placing many sites in lee-side until mid-day.  Possible easing of outflow mid to late afternoon. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft E to 33 km/hr easing to 15 km/hr. Main valley wind strong NW winds to 20 km/hr at water becoming NE inland.  Woodside wind talker with early gusty lee-side North wind 25 gusting to 53 km/hr. Chilliwack early gusty outflow NW 17-33 km/hr. Valley winds forecast to subside by early afternoon. Novice peak lapse rate -1.5C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft ESE to 50 km/hr easting to 22 km/hr. Valley winds N and becoming E to 13 km/hr. Novice peak lapse rate -1.6C/1000ft.

1. Paragliding Pemberton-2.7C/1000ft Intermediate peak lapse rate.  Wait for morning strong East winds aloft to subside.  Possible window to fly late afternoon.  Mt. McKenzie for P4 pilots 1400-1900. Prospects for paragliding for P4 pilots 70%. 

2. Paragliding Bellingham: -1.1C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate. Wait for strong morning outflow aloft to subside.  Blanchard should be below E wind aloft influence and influenced most by sea breeze, but watch for possible lee-side conditions. Blanchard for P3 pilots 1400-1900. Chances to paraglide 70%. 

3. Paragliding Vancouver: -1.5C/1000ft Novice peak lapse rate.  Wait for strong morning outflow aloft to subside. Grouse for GMFT P3 pilots 1400-1900.  70% paragliding chances. 

4. Paragliding Whistler: -3.1 C/1000ft Advanced peak lapse rate.  Wait for early strong East wind aloft to subside.  Whistler for Whistler flying team p4 pilots 1400-1900 with chances for paragliding 70%. 

5. Paragliding Chilliwack-2.3C/1000ft Novice peak lapse rate. Woodside wind talker with early gusty lee-side North wind 25 gusting to 53 km/hr. Chilliwack early gusty outflow NW 17-33 km/hr.  Winds aloft forecast strong east, easing as day progresses.  DO NOT FLY early.  Possible P4 window if lee-side subsides late afternoon. 

6. Paragliding Seattle: -1.6C/1000ft Novice peak lapse rate.  Strong east wind aloft wind aloft placing Tiger in lee-side: paragliding not recommended today.

Paragliding Weather Forecast for the Vancouver, Chilliwack, Bellingham, Seattle, Whistler & Pemberton area, based on data available at 0700.

Jet stream near overhead dercreasing stability in region.  Transitioning pressure from low to high with 30% POP and low cloud early in mountains, progressively clearing to sunny skies as day progresses in Pemberton, Chilliwack and Vancouver.  Bellingham and Seattle with partly sunny skies becoming sunny by mid morning. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft light WNW to 28 km/hr becoming light and variable. Main valley wind light outflow to 10 km/hr becoming inflow early to 20 km/hr.  Woodside windtalker with early gusty inflow to 22 km/hr.  Hope and Chilliwack reporting early W inflow.  Advanced peak lapse rate -2.8C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft N to 22 km/hr. Valley winds light and variable becoming NW to 12 km/hr. Intermediate peak lapse rate -2.4C/1000ft.

1. Paragliding Vancouver: -2.9C/1000ft Advanced peak lapse rate.  Wait for early cloud to lift and winds aloft to subside. Grouse for GMFT P3 pilots 1100-2000.  70% paragliding chances. 

2. Paragliding Bellingham: -2.4C/1000ft Intermediate peak lapse rate. Blanchard should be below N wind aloft influence and influenced most by sea breeze, but watch for possible lee-side conditions. Blanchard for P3 pilots 0900-2000. Chances to paraglide 60%. 

3. Paragliding Chilliwack-2.8C/1000ft Advanced peak lapse rate. Jet steam near overhead decreasing stability.  Post frontal conditions. Strong West clearing wind aloft to 28 km/hr early.  Woodside wind talker reporting gusty West wind to 22 km/hr early.  Wait for early cloud to lift and west wind aloft to subside.  Watch for strong unpredictable conditions. Mt. Woodside 1100-1930 with P4 conditions. Bridal 1300-1900 with P4 conditions. Paragliding chances for P4 pilots 50%. 

4. Paragliding Pemberton-2.8C/1000ft Advanced peak lapse rate.  30% POP early with clearing skies. Winds aloft West at 3000ft and strong to 28 km/hr early, making for a rough morning but forecast to ease to light and variable.  Proximity of jet stream complicating picture.   Mt. McKenzie for P4 pilots 1300-1900. Prospects for paragliding for P4 pilots 50%. 

5. Paragliding Seattle: -2.4C/1000ft Intermediate peak lapse rate.  North wind aloft placing Tiger in lee-side: paragliding not recommended today. 

6. Paragliding Whistler: -3.0 C/1000ft Advanced peak lapse rate.  With early strong west wind aloft, 30% POP and jet strean near overhead, paraglding not recommended today.
