Top Gun Flight School

At iParaglide Top Gun Flight School, we take pride in having taught over 1900 paragliding students in our 26 years of operation.

We are the the longest running school based in Metro Vancouver. Due to our central location, we are the only school that flies all of the relevant kiting parks, training hills and mountains within a 3 hour radius of Vancouver.  This empowers pilots to get to know the key training and flying spots early, optimizes and accelerates learning, and allows them to grow into great future pilots.  

We have the reputation of being an industry leader with an emphasis on engineered safety systems, quality instruction, the finest equipment and a positive learning environment for fun and empowering flying.

We offer the highest level of accreditation, with Senior HPAC and Advanced USHPA paragliding instructors, who coach from first flight to expert paraglider pilots and teach and qualify new paragliding instructors.

Jet stream overhead creating unstable conditions with the potential for highly variable wind strengths and directions with increased smoke brought from interior fires. PILOTS ADVISORY: DO NOT PARAGLIDE TODAY. POP at 50-100% throughout. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft forecast W to 13 km/hr becoming NW to 11 km/hr.  NOTE forecast winds aloft are suspect of being significantly less than actual due to presence of jet-stream overhead.  Valley wind forecast as light E outflow to 10 km/hr becoming SW inflow to 20 km/hr.  NOTE forecast valley wind is suspect of being lower than actual, watch for sudden changes and gusty valley wind due to jet-stream.  Forecast peak lapse rate -2.3C/1000ft is suspect of being lower than actual, with jet-stream causing instability.

High pressure and end of NE wind aloft,  with a switch to W wind aloft, reducing smoke as day progresses.

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft light and variable, becoming WNW to 28 km/hr mid afternoon.  Valley wind light outflow E to 5 km/hr becoming W inflow to 10 km/hr with sea-breeze arrival. Novice peak lapse rate -1.1C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft E to 30 km/hr becoming N to 17 km/hr mid afternoon. Valley winds light and variable becoming NW to 10 km/hr. Novice peak lapse rate -2.0C/1000ft.

Paragliding Chilliwack: -2.6C/1000ft intermediate peak lapse rate.  Forecast peak lapse rate is suspect of being higher than actual due to smoke blocking sun and reducing thermal formation.  P2 pilots at Woodside 1000-1400 then watch for increasing W wind aloft and change to P4 advanced conditions and possibly blown out by 1700.  Bridal should be on today 1100-1400 for P2 pilots and then watch for building WNW wind aloft and switch to P4 advanced conditions and possibly blown out by 1700. Chances to paraglide 70% early, 40% late. 

2. Paragliding Pemberton: -2.7C/1000ft intermediate peak lapse rate.  Forecast peak lapse rate is suspect of being higher than actual due to smoke blocking sun and reducing thermal formationWinds aloft at 3000ft light and variable early, with P2 conditions 1000-1400 then watch for building WNW wind aloft amplifying the arrival "Whistler Express" strong south wind inflow conditions with Advanced to un-flyable blown out conditions. Paragliding chances 70% early, paragliding not recommended post 1400. 

3. Paragliding Bellingham: -1.8 C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Blanchard Mountain may be below wind aloft influence, but watch for possible lee-side conditions.  P4 pilots only if positive flow is confirmed 1100-1800. Paragliding prospects 50%. 

4. Paragliding Vancouver: -1.1C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Grouse for GMFT P4 advanced pilots 1000-1400 then watch for increasing WNW wind aloft and rough conditions. 70% paragliding chances early, 40% late.  

5. Paragliding Whistler: -2.9C/1000ft advanced peak lapse rate. Forecast peak lapse rate is suspect of being higher than actual due to smoke blocking sun and reducing thermal formationWinds aloft at 3000ft light and variable early, with P2 conditions 1000-1400 then watch for building WNW wind aloft with advanced to un-flyable blown out conditions. Whistler team P4 advanced pilots 0900-1400. Right Site Weather: Aug 12

Vancouver, Chilliwack, Bellingham, Seattle, Whistler & Pemberton area paragliding weather forecast based on data available at 0900.

High pressure arrival with transitioning skies with mostly cloudy to rainy conditions, clearing late in the day. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft light and variable.  Valley wind outflow E to 15 km/hr becoming W inflow to 5 km/hr late in day with sea-breeze arrival. Novice peak lapse rate -2.2C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft light and variable becoming N to 17 km/hr.  Valley winds light and variable. Novice peak lapse rate -2.3C/1000ft.

1. Paragliding Bellingham: -2.0C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Blanchard Mountain often has a blue hole when metro Vancouver is under cloud.  Blanchard for P2 pilots 0900-1900.  Paragliding prospects 70%. 

2. Paragliding Seattle: -2.3C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Cloudy skies transitioning to sunny mid afternoon. Tiger for P3 intermediate pilots 1200-1500, then watch for possible increasing north wind aloft mid afternoon leading to lee side conditions and shutting things down. Paraglidng prospects 60% early, not recommended late afternoon.

Paragliding is not recommended in Chilliwack today due to 60% POP and low cloud base at 2000ft. Pemberton and Whistler at 40% POP and unlikely to open up until too late in day, paragliding not recommended. Vancouver mountains also in cloud for bulk of the day, paragliding, not recommended.

High pressure arrival with clearing skies. 

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft light and variable, becoming N to 24 km/hr mid afternoon.  Valley wind light outflow E to 10 km/hr becoming W inflow to 10 km/hr with sea-breeze arrival. Novice peak lapse rate -2.1C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft NNE to 17 km/hr becoming NNW to 13 km/hr mid afternoon. Valley winds ESE to to km/hr becoming light and variable.  Intermediate peak lapse rate -2.4C/1000ft. 

iParaglide Right Site Ranking:

1. Paragliding Pemberton: -2.4C/1000ft intermediate peak lapse rate.  Winds aloft at 3000ft light and variable early and becoming NW to 24 km/hr make fore easy conditions early and rough conditions mid afternoon. Mt. McKenzie for P2 pilots early 0900-1300 then watch for increasing NW winds aloft making conditions rough P4 advanced to un-flyable conditions for the rest of the day. Paragliding chances 90% early, 50% late. 

2. Paragliding Chilliwack: -2.1C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Woodside for P2 pilots 0800-1200 then watch for switch to NW wind aloft and possible rough crosswind P4 conditions.  Bridal should be on today 1100-1400 for P2 pilots and then developing NW wind aloft should yield good soaring prospects for P3 intermediate pilots 1400-2000.  Chances to paraglide 90% early, 80% late. 

3. Paragliding Bellingham: -2.1C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Blanchard Mountain may be below wind aloft influence, but watch for possible light lee-side conditions.  P3 intermediate pilots 1000-1900.  Paragliding prospects 70%. 

4. Paragliding Vancouver: -2.1C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Grouse for GMFT P4 advanced pilots 1000-1400 then watch for increasing NW wind aloft and psossible rough conditions. 90% paragliding chances early, 60% late.  

5. Paragliding Whistler: -2.9C/1000ft advanced peak lapse rate.  Winds aloft at 3000ft light and variable early and becoming NW to 24 km/hr make for easy conditions early and rough conditions mid afternoon. Whistler team P4 advanced pilots 0900-1900. Paragliding chances 90% early, 50% late.

6. Paragliding Seattle: -2.4C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  North wind aloft places Tiger in lee-side today. Paragliding not recommended.

High pressure with clear skies with some smoke due to Richmond fire.

YVR 3000 ft winds aloft light and variable, becoming W to 13 km/hr mid afternoon.  Valley wind light outflow E to 10 km/hr becoming W inflow to 10 km/hr with sea-breeze arrival. Novice peak lapse rate -1.3C/1000ft.

SEA 3000 ft winds aloft light and variable throughout day. Novice peak lapse rate -2.0C/1000ft.

1. Paragliding Pemberton: -2.7C/1000ft advanced peak lapse rate. Great day to go Fly at the Major Tom Pemberton BBQ Fly-in!  Forecast lapse rate is suspect to be higher than the actual lapse rate, with extended high pressure and some smoke from forest fires keeping the actual lapse rate down below -2.5C/1000 ft. Winds aloft at 3000ft light and variable early and becoming light west to 13 km/hr, make for easier than typical Pemberton conditions. Mt. Mckenzie for P2 pilots early 0900-1400 and 1700-2100 with P3 intermediate conditions at peak 1400-1070.  Paragliding chances 90%.

2. Paragliding Chilliwack: -2.1C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Woodside for P2 pilots 0800-2100 and Bridal 1100-2100.  Chances to paraglide 90%.

3. Paragliding Seattle: -2.0C/1000ft novice peak lapse rate.  Tiger for P2 pilots 0800-2100. 90% chances for paragliding. 

4.
